Data Breach Monitoring

What is Data Breach Monitoring tool in KYND? How does it work and how to set it up?

WHAT IS IT & WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

Data Breach Monitoring solution has been created to help you protect any personal data, whether it's employees, customers, or supply chain and alert you on any suspicious activity to prevent from regulatory fines or even business reputation damage.

KYND tool helps you create a honeypot-type synthetic identities (or, in other words, data spies) and continuously monitors them. We then alert you whenever there is a suspicion that the data could have been breached (stolen) or is being used inappropriately.

The longer it takes for a company to detect a breach incident, the more costly the impact of that breach is likely to be. Research by IBM states that, on average, a breach takes 197 days to detect and that companies that are able to detect a breach in less than 30 days can save more than $1 million in resolution costs compared to those that take longer. With all the legislation now in place (such as GDPR), reacting swiftly to a breach is more important than ever.

WHAT TO DO & HOW

  1. First, open your KYND Dashboard and go to Manage Data Breach Risks:

2. Set up a new set of credentials:

The number of credentials you can set up varies and depends on the plan you're currently on (but you can always contact us for more details or an upgrade).

The Reference and System is to easily identify the database where the credentials will sit.

3. Now all you need to do is send a test email to the unique address KYND has just created for you and add the created credentials to your database of choice:

The details created will be bespoke and unique to your account. The only people who should know about the synthetic identity email address in your database is you and KYND.

As long as there's no suspicious activity in this inbox, KYND will show that everything is secure and up to date. But if that email address receives an email from outside your organisation, it will mean that a data breach has probably occurred and an untrusted source has access to this database - you will receive an email alert immediately and KYND dashboard, as well as the Risk Report, will show you that the security of your database might have been compromised:

We alert you immediately so you can take action and reduce the possible impact caused by the data breach to minutes instead of days, weeks or even months and eliminate threats immediately after detection.
